Unmanned Aircraft Vehicle (UAV/Drone) Policy
Royal Roads University Policy
This policy responds to Transport Canada Regulations regarding safe and responsible use of remotely controlled unmanned aircraft (drones) on Royal Roads University’s campus and surrounding lands. All faculty, students, employees, contractors, volunteers, and the general public located on RRU’s property are governed by this policy.
RRU’s campus falls within the restrictions for recreational drone use. As such recreational drone use is not permitted within the context of Transport Canada’s policy found at: https://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/opssvs/flying-drone-safely-legally.html
Individuals requesting drone filming for commercial or documentary purposes must submit an application to Transport Canada for a ‘Special Flight Operation Certificate’, and contact Campus Services at firstname.lastname@example.org to confirm date, time and planned location.
Information regarding commercial drone operation may be found at: http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/opssvs/getting-permission-fly-drone.html
